With the dramatic growth seen in the infrastructure sector during the pandemic, we can see that construction will play a pivotal role in the recovery of the country’s economy. With a third of a construction companies in the UK expecting to provide more jobs to meet the increasing demands. Even with it being a robust industry, there is also signs of a growing shortage of skilled workers, limiting on what can be achieved to help the significant infrastructure investment in 2021 and beyond.
CITB supported the training of nearly a quarter of a million construction workers in the last financial year, according to newly published accounts.
They have also supported the industry with the creation of 4,528 new apprenticeships and provided ongoing support for 15,844. Apprenticeship grants were offered to industry employers, with £61m in 2019-20, an increase of 25% compared to 2018-2019.
