Detection of buried services

Cable strikes and arc-flash are a common hazard where injures have seen a significant 46% rise.  According to the Energy Networks Association (ENA), in the past five years 354 people have suffered life-changing injuries from ‘arc-flash’ as a result of striking a live underground electricity cable.

There is still a lack of awareness of the risks involved as well as inadequate knowledge of the correct procedure when working on site.  So much so that electrical company SPJ Energy Works launched ‘Plan Ahead, Look Around’ campaign at the end of 2020.  This was to highlight the severity of the dangers to construction workers and to encourage construction industries to follow strict safety guidelines.

A Cable Avoidance Tool (C.A.T) can be used on work sites to locate buried services.  It can significantly reduce the major hazard of cable or pipe damage, expensive repairs, project delays and personal injuries.  However, the C.A.T can easily be misused due to lack of knowledge and understanding.

The Detection of Buried Services training will provide operatives this essential information.  It is done so through theory and practical sessions by our Certified trainer.
